My earliest remembrance of church was at age 3…I have a picture of me on the steps of our church? I attended First Methodist Church in downtown Tampa, Florida. I was active in church, Sunday school, Methodist Youth Fellowship and I sang in the Junior choir. I attended the Methodist summer camp. BUT!
I don't ever remember hearing the plan of salvation.
Was I saved, had I trusted Jesus to be my Savior…I don’t know?
I was baptized when I was 8. I was at church when the doors were open.
We had a picture of Jesus hanging in our kitchen right over our kitchen table. Mama talked to Jesus every day.
After I married, I attended a different Methodist church. When my son was old enough for school, we sent him to a Christian School from K-4 to 8th grade.
One of the mothers from my son’s school invited me to a Baptist revival. I attended, heard the message. I went forward, but my life and my lifestyle didn’t change.
Fast forward to 1997. A different friend invited me to attend a Pentacostal revival in Lakeland Florida. The evangelist was from South Africa, and he was on fire for Jesus! It was totally amazing. I didn’t know what a Pentecostal church was, but my eyes saw a church full of people Praising the LORD with raised hands and yes, there were a few Holy rollers. First time to see that and I haven’t seen it since.
I was changed and I became hungry to know Jesus and His Word. I studied the Bible; I attended classes from Moody Bible College, and I continually memorized Bible verses. My eyes were opened, and I have been on fire for Jesus from that day forward. I was changed. I trusted Jesus to save me from Hell.
I was no longer wandering through life. I knew where I was headed!
I attend a main line, Evangelica, Bible believing church. No one rolls in the isle, and I am usually the only one who raises holy hands. I know where I met Jesus, and I continue to praise Him for drawing me unto Himself.
There is a story in the Bible of a man who was blind from birth, and Jesus healed His blindness. When he was asked about Jesus in John 9:25, he answered:
“I don’t know whether he is good or bad,” the man replied, “but I know this: I was blind, and now I see!”
Me too! I know He is good. That’s my final answer! I was blind, and now I see! Amen.
Amen and good word Van!!! I also was blind, but God opened my eyes and heart to seek to know His Son, and I've never regretted following Him. I'm thankful every day!
And I'm so glad to in the same church family with you, Van. You are such an encourager and truly care about people, pointing them to Jesus.
