Looking to the future!
Remembering the past.

When I got up and got moving this morning, I headed to the kitchen to make my first cup of coffee when I heard the train whistle. It is always music to my ears. The sound takes me back to when I was a child growing up. Every night at 6 PM, like clockwork, the whistle would blow, the train would pass by, and my mother and I would go to the back door, stand on the steps, and wave to the train conductor. Years passed, and one evening at 6 PM, there was a knock on the back door. Mother went to the door only to find a man standing on the steps. He introduced himself as the train conductor who waved back at us five nights a week. He said he was retiring and wanted to meet the two who faithfully waved nightly. This surprise has made a special memory for me every time I hear a train horn blow!
Some memories are precious, others painful, but when we add God’s Word to our memory bank, it calms our hearts and gives us comfort at every turn in life.
Yes, comfort! “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Colossians 3:16:
God has a beautiful way of bringing His Word to mind just when we need it most, whether through joy or sorrow, in the quiet or in the storm. I know this because He does it for me all the time, in every season. “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” 2. John 14:26
